The Flemish masters surround me, it must be one of the strongest museums to be seen in Europe. It’s noticeable and feelable that the collection has grown and matured over centuries. Conceived, produced, raw-materials stolen, artworks juxtaposed and separated, restored and forgotten.
So, the lesson to be learned is that nothing can be kept. There is no stand-still state. Except maybe in a museum. Where the Stilleben still lives on, showing us long forgotten table settings caught and frozen in time, carriers of dreams from old days, from former definitions of luxury. The birds, the fruit, the vases and the objects. All vanity vanishing.
But, the artistic statement stays.
Stay curious! Always.
Yours,
Mikael
